Invisible effects on 35mm: David Gidali supervises on set for Mathematic on Ariana Grande's “hate that i made you love me”, a photochemical shoot built on practical stunts and miniatures.
Ariana Grande's “hate that i made you love me” was shot on 35mm film, a choice that shapes every effects decision downstream. Director Christian Breslauer and cinematographer Janusz Kamiński built the piece around practical stunts and miniatures, with visual effects there to extend and protect the photography rather than replace it. The video co-stars Justin Long.
David Gidali served as on-set VFX supervisor on behalf of Mathematic, overseeing the invisible effects work across the shoot.
“It was an honor to work alongside director Christian Breslauer and cinematographer Janusz Kamiński, and of course the lovely Ariana Grande,” Gidali says.
